Conveniently arrange your insurance online with a personal touch

You can easily manage all of your insurance matters online – from taking out your insurance to reporting a claim – and if you ever need a helping hand, we’re always just an e-mail or phone call away. When you buy a new passenger car, KBC Brussels exclusively gives you your front number plate for free.

Discounts and jokers for safe drivers

Instead of our former bonus-malus system, you can earn a 10% discount on the premium for your third-party liability (T/P liability) insurance if you don’t file any at-fault claims for one full year. If you don’t file any at-fault claims for five consecutive years, you’re rewarded with a joker that allows you to keep your discounted premium, even after an at-fault accident. You can read more about the jokers and the discounted premium for T/P liability insurance in the general conditions.

Extensive purchase price guarantee for electric vehicles

Our comprehensive insurance gives you peace of mind should anything go wrong: we compensate the full purchase amount up to 48 months after the purchase of an electric vehicle and up to 30 months after the purchase of a new fossil-fuel vehicle. In addition, we increase the compensation by 10% no matter the type of vehicle.

Compare our car insurance options

When you purchase a car in Belgium, you are required to take out third-party liability (T/P liability) insurance to cover any loss, damage and/or injury you might cause to others. You can also opt for more extensive protection for your car by taking out our semi- or fully comprehensive insurance. The below table shows you what additional cover is provided compared to the T/P liability insurance, as well as any supplementary insurance you can optionally include or which is included as a standard.

You can take to the road with peace of mind with any of the insurance cover described above. You can also choose to add extra protection for you and your family by adding legal assistance insurance, driver accident insurance, vehicle assistance and/or personal assistance to your insurance package.

Legal assistance insurance

Claims can lead to disagreements. If you find yourself in a dispute that needs to be settled in court, you can count on our legal assistance insurance for advice and legal support, and the legal expenses arising from the dispute are covered up to 100,000 euros. If the other party is unable to pay compensation, we compensate up to 12,500 euros under this insurance. 98% of our car insurance customers take out legal assistance insurance.

Driver accident insurance

Standard T/P liability insurance and comprehensive or semi-comprehensive insurance do NOT cover the bodily injuries you sustain in an accident you caused. Our supplementary ‘Driver accident insurance’ gives you the protection you need to cover medical expenses, even if you’re at fault. It also covers any other people who drive your vehicle with your permission.

Vehicle assistance and personal assistance

Under your compulsory T/P liability insurance, you are entitled to have your vehicle towed away for free following an accident in Belgium.

By supplementing your insurance with vehicle assistance, you’ll also be covered if your car breaks down at home or on the road. This can be further extended with replacement vehicle cover. If you take out fully comprehensive insurance, your policy automatically includes vehicle assistance and replacement vehicle cover

Personal assistance cover offers you and your family protection in the event of an accident or illness while travelling.

Learn more about your car insurance

We recommend registering your child or children in your own car insurance free of charge within the first year of them obtaining their provisional driving licence. You can arrange this in a few easy steps using KBC Brussels Mobile or KBC Brussels Touch. Registering your child or children in your car insurance ensures they’re properly insured before hitting the road. In addition, this enables them to build up their own no-claims history, so that if they take out their own car insurance with us later, they’ll end up paying a lower rate.

Since driving less reduces the risk of accidents, you get a discount if you drive less than 15 000 km a year. Your premium will be lower still if you drive less than 7 500 km a year.

If you’re aged between 55 and 65, have been a customer with KBC Insurance for five years or more and haven’t had an accident in the last five years, you are entitled to our life-long insurance guarantee. You can rest assured that your compulsory third-party liability insurance will not be cancelled – even in the event of a claim, unless you ignore or violate the general conditions.

  • If you’re insuring a new fully electric vehicle, you’ll get the full amount you paid up to 48 months after purchasing it.
  • We offer a 24-month purchase price guarantee for used electric vehicles.
  • If you’re insuring a new fossil-fuel vehicle, you’ll get the full amount you paid up to 30 months after purchasing it.
  • When you take out comprehensive insurance, you choose a deductible that suits your budget, ranging from 250 to 1,250 euros.
No deductible applies in the following cases:
    – Glass breakage: provided you choose a glass repair company approved by us
    – Fire, melt damage caused by a short circuit, explosions, fire-extinguishing operations, theft, forces of nature, damage caused by pine martens, falling aircraft or parts thereof, or collisions with birds or stray animals
    – Total loss
  • When you take out semi-comprehensive insurance, no deductible applies. However, if you need to have broken glass repaired and you choose not to use a glass repair company approved by us, you’ll be required to pay a deductible.

With the ‘10% extra compensation option’, we increase the compensation by 10% – with no further formalities required – to cover any items that may have been lost or damaged in the process. This option is automatically included in our semi- and fully comprehensive insurance, but you can also choose to have it excluded. Your KBC Insurance intermediary will gladly arrange this for you.

Make sure you always have a European Accident Statement in your vehicle. You can get one from your KBC Brussels insurance agent or bank branch.

If you’re involved in an accident with another party, both you and the other party need to fill in the statement. See how. Be sure to specify the repairer where you want to have your vehicle repaired following an accident. KBC Brussels uses a network of repairers.

If you also report your claim online using KBC Brussels Mobile or KBC Brussels Touch, we’ll ensure everything is followed up and processed as quickly as possible.

To switch to KBC Brussels, all you need to do is calculate and apply for your insurance online or contact one of our insurance agents. If you decide to conclude a contract with us, we’ll arrange the cancellation of your current contract with the other insurer.

We tailor your premium to your personal situation based on various criteria, such as the type of vehicle you drive, your driving behaviour and the type of insurance you want to take out. For instance, if you have a no-claims history and you apply for insurance for your new vehicle, you’ll pay a lower premium.

If you’ve put together your insurance package and agree with the proposed premium amount, go ahead and launch the application process. Keep your chassis number handy. You can find it on your vehicle’s registration certificate. If you’re insuring a used vehicle, you’ll also need its initial registration date.

Yes. Our insurance covers you as policyholder as well as any people who drive your car with your permission or who ride along with you. Any person who drives the vehicle for more than 2,500 km per year must be included in the policy.

A certificate of insurance (this also used to be known as the ‘green card’) serves as proof that your vehicle is properly insured for the term specified on the document. KBC Brussels no longer issues a paper version of this document. The certificate of insurance is now white and digital. Just ask Kate for a ‘certificate of insurance’ and it will pop up right away.
