Make your own estimate of how much can you borrow

The simulator doesn’t guarantee that you can actually borrow this amount, but it does give you a better idea of what’s possible.

How to start saving

‘How much can I borrow?’ It’s a common question, and the answer is always different. It all depends on how much you can pay off each month and how large a deposit you can put down to begin with. These two factors are determined by your financial situation.

The first step is to subtract your monthly expenditure from your monthly income in order to estimate how much you can afford to repay. After that, you should read on for more savings tips.

Your monthly income and expenditure

To calculate the amount you can repay each month, you need to look at the money you have coming in:

  • Your salary or other income received for work
  • Income from a self-employed activity or second job
  • Rental income from an apartment or house

If your income varies each year, add up your income from about three months and take the average.

You can split your monthly expenses into two categories: fixed costs and your household budget.

Examples of fixed costs include:

  • Ongoing payments such as your mortgage or rent
  • Other ongoing payments, such as for a car loan or personal loan
  • About 7% of your total credit card limits and budget facility (these are also a type of loan)

Examples of household expenses include

  • Food and drink
  • Clothing
  • Energy costs
  • Water costs
  • Internet and telephone bills, etc.

If you’re already a customer with us, you’ll immediately see your monthly expenditure in the ‘Personal finance manager’ in KBC Brussels Touch. Alternatively, you can ask Kate in KBC Brussels Mobile for an overview of your monthly expenditure.

If you’re borrowing by yourself, you should only look at your own income and expenditure. If two of you are borrowing, you should add everything together.

Make sure you don’t forget about the interest. KBC Brussels's various simulators allow you to calculate this.
