Travel assistance insurance

Did you know that in 2019 there were 40 000 winter sports accidents in Austria alone?

KFV – Austrian Road Safety Board

Despite the large crowds on ski slopes during the winter months, most skiers are injured due to their own actions. An unfortunate fall or collision can not only end your holiday, it can also lead to a series of medical expenses. These include costs related to hospital admissions, repatriation, an enforced extended stay, family members having to travel out and physiotherapy after you return home.

Travel assistance insurance means that you’re covered for the financial consequences of an accident while skiing or snowboarding. The medical expenses resulting from your accident will be reimbursed by KBC Brussels, leaving you to focus entirely on your recovery.

What is covered

Personal assistance cover provides compensation for things like medical expenses you incur while travelling abroad

  • Hospitalisation, repatriation, forced extended stays, transfer of family members, etc.
  • Medical expenses abroad up to 500 000 euros per person
  • Personal assistance cover is valid worldwide

What isn’t covered

  • Complications occurring after the second trimester of pregnancy, and childbirth expenses
  • Complications related to, or worsening of, an existing illness if you have not followed the treatment prescribed
  • Participation in the paid or profitable practice of sports, including training
  • Participation in extreme outdoor activities where the conditions or level of difficulty involved pose a potential danger to the insured person’s life (examples include base jumping, heli-skiing and wreck diving)

Your travel assistance insurance in brief

  • Protection against the financial consequences of an accident on or off the slopes
  • Available to both customers and non-customers
  • Capability to arrange everything online or with your insurance agent

Did you know that the average skiing accident costs 30 000 euros?

www.skiinformatie.nl

Whether it’s due to losing focus for a moment, going a touch too fast or simply the wrong move at the wrong time, a collision with another skier or snowboarder can happen fast. While it’s usually no worse than a few bruises, sometimes the consequences are more serious. What’s more, if you’re at fault, you’ll be the one who has to foot the victim's medical bills.

That could include costs associated with a hospital admission, repatriation and rehabilitation, or even (permanent) disability. In other words, the costs can stack up considerably.

Family insurance covers you for the harm or damage you or your family members cause to others. KBC Brussels pays any compensation to the victim in both the short and long term.
