Funeral insurance

Funeral insurance

  • Leave behind beautiful memories instead of financial concerns
  • Protect your loved ones from the financial consequences of your funeral
  • Decide how much you want to insure

Choose the beneficiary yourself

The policyholder is free to determine the beneficiary. This can be a family member or friend, or the undertaker who arranges the funeral.

Want to designate the undertaker as the beneficiary?

In that case, KBC Brussels settles the invoice for the funeral directly with the undertaker. KBC Brussels will use the sum insured to pay the first funeral invoice it receives within 45 days of the insured’s death.

Any funds remaining after paying the invoice go to the estate. We will pay the sum insured to the estate if we don’t receive an invoice within 45 days.

Why take out KBC Funeral Insurance?

According to a survey carried out by Test Aankoop in October 2018, the average cost of a funeral is 5 000 euros. That’s not including the cost of the repast, headstone, concession, etc.

KBC Funeral Insurance lets you protect your loved ones against the financial consequences of your funeral.

Choose the amount you want to insure

How much you insure for your funeral is up to you. In other words, the sum insured can be freely determined, but must lie between 4 000 euros and 10 000 euros.

If you want the amount to keep up with the rising costs of a funeral, you should opt for indexation. This means that the amount will increase by 2% each year relative to your chosen capital sum.

Building up your capital

This insurance requires you to pay fixed monthly premiums for 15 years, which means you know straight away what you have to pay when the insurance starts.

Your funeral, just the way you want it

While you may trust your family or friends to arrange a proper funeral for you, the way it is carried out is often not discussed in detail. If it’s important to you for your funeral and everything involved to proceed as you wish, it is useful to record this in a will. This document ensures your personal wishes for your funeral are made known to your next of kin.

What’s excluded?

As with any insurance, exclusions apply. These include the following:

  • Death of the insured by suicide in the first year of the contract (euthanasia according to the legal provisions is, however, not an exclusion)
  • Death of the insured as a consequence of an act of violence or active participation in events of war

You can find a complete list of exclusions in the general conditions.
