Why go for this insurance?

Internet use is on the rise. That unfortunately includes criminals, with some 10% of Internet users in Belgium reporting financial loss due to cybercrime (based on 2015 Eurostat figures). This insurance helps compensate financial losses from online fraud.

You could also fall fowl of cyberbullying or damage to your reputation online. This insurance helps reduce the consequences of this happening.

What can you expect?

We repay payments you make using your KBC Brussels current account due to being deceived by someone purporting to be a government agency, trader or professional service provider using fake websites, false entitlements or permits or other forms of subterfuge on the Internet. This is called an e-scam.

We also compensate you if you are defrauded by someone who misuses your KBC Brussels current account on the Internet to make unwanted online payments without your permission. This is called e-fraud.

What’s excluded?

  • Payments on auction websites and online marketplaces where private individuals are able to sell products
  • Internet fraud committed before you have the insurance, even if your account is debited afterwards

2. Online identity theft


What can you expect?

You can claim on this insurance if a third party steals your identity or authentication data via the Internet and uses that data improperly online, causing you loss. This includes online theft and misuse of personal details like your name, address, national registration number, e-mail address and passwords. We’ll compensate you for financial loss resulting from identity theft.

What’s excluded?

  • Protection provided by credit card companies in the case of misuse of credit cards
  • Identity theft committed before you have the insurance, even if a claim arises afterwards

3. Online reputation damage


What can you expect?

You can claim on this insurance if you suffer damage to your reputation online. This includes slander and defamation over the Internet when a third party maliciously accuses you of committing an offence and the alleged offence could harm your reputation. Unlawful publication of sensitive information about you is also included.

If you suffer damage to your reputation online, we’ll put you in contact with a specialist service provider who will advise you remotely and, if necessary, take action in order to prevent further loss.

What’s excluded?

  • Reputation damage suffered before having the insurance

Charges

This insurance costs 3 euros a month per account or 6 euros a month for all family accounts (see the conditions of cover for what we mean by family). What you pay for the insurance is debited monthly from the KBC Brussels current account you specified when taking out the insurance.

Things you also need to know

  • If you report damage in an e-mail, be sure not to include sensitive information in it. Wait instead until KBC Brussels contacts you.
  • Belgian law applies to this product.
  • Account holders can take out or cancel KBC Brussels Internet Protection Insurance at any time.
  • If you have a complaint about the conditions of cover, please contact your KBC Brussels Bank branch or KBC Complaints Management, Brusselsesteenweg 100, 3000 Leuven, complaints@kbcbrussels.be. If you cannot find a suitable solution, you can contact the Belgian insurance industry’s ombudsman service: Ombudsman van de Verzekeringen, de Meeûssquare 35, 1000 Brussels, www.ombudsman.as.
