Against all the odds – not to mention red tape – they launched their participatory project in 2013 in the Dansaert district of central Brussels. Their beers have names like Grosse Bertha, Red My Lips and Dark Sister, and one of their co-creations is brewed using recycled fresh bread (Baby Lone). They developed their idea of an original brewery using a form of crowd-funding they called ‘Beer for Life’ – 12 beers a year for each contributor, of whom there are already 2 500!
If it’s not obvious by now, the Brussels Beer Project isn’t your average brewery. That might be one of the reasons they chose KBC Brussels as their financial partner: a bank that’s 100% Brussels and firmly rooted in the 21st century, just like the project’s founders.
